What is a playback singer? Here's Wikipedia's definition: Someone "whose singing is pre-recorded for use in movies. Playback singers record songs for soundtracks, and actors or actresses lip-sync the songs for cameras, while the actual singer does not appear on screen".
Sunidhi Chauhan was first discovered by Indian cinema at the early age of four. But her big break came when she was 16 years old through the film "Mast" by Ram Gopal Varma, where she sang the hit song "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi".
Since then she has lent her voice to many Bollywood actress including Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Kajol, Sridevi, Aishwarya Rai, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Urmila Matondkar, Shilpa Shetty, Sushmita Sen, Shamita Shetty, Lara Dutta, Dia Mirza, Esha Deol, Anushka Sharma, Parineeti Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez, Konkona Sen Sharma, Gauhar Khan, Mumaith Khan and Rakhi Sawant.
But Sunidhi Chauhan's songs are not only for the South Asia. She has also made it in the global pop scene with a recording of the Hindi version of "Heartbeat" with Enrigue. Her single with Sanjoy Deb, "Ab Laut La", is now being played by disc jockeys (DJs) in various clubs and parties worldwide.
